Halls Head Football Club hosted the Year 5′s Fun Day on Saturday 1st May at Merlin St. The day was a huge success. With 18 Teams playing at least 3 games each. The first game starting at 9am and the last finishing at 1pm. 4 games were played every 30 mins.

Halls Head would like to thank the parents and grandparents who helped in the Shed. Mark Anderson was on the Sausage sizzle for about 2 hours (this is after he had coached Auskick). Stuart Day had a 2 hour stint on the BBQ. Jenny Lally, Lee Smith, Amanda Norton, Mary Storie were also fantastic helpers who pitched in at the last minute. Who would of thought after cooking 250 sausages we were nearly on the verge of running out and it wasn’t even lunch time, so out went Kerrie Heal and Luana Patten to collect some more and didn’t forget the onions.

The Canteen were kept busy all day. Jan and her helpers were there preparing from 6am and still there at 7pm. A big thank you to Jan Sullivan, Kerrie Heal, Pam Pignat, Lovella Comeros-Ochtmas, Elaine Hatton, Melissa Pix, Jodie Burrage, Kathy Farmer, Rachel Scott, Tina Harris, Gemma Raymond and Amanda Gardiner for assisting in the canteen.

Mark Hodge, Graeme Heal, Mark Anderson and helpers were busy setting up ovals after the Auskick had finished. A big thank you to all the players, coaches, team managers and spectators for leaving the ovals rubbish free and moving from oval to oval without any delays.

We look forward to starting Round 1 this week and hope everyone continues with their support to the club. Once again THANK YOU for all your efforts you certainly didn’t go unnoticed.

Cheers,
Brad Faithfull

Welcome back everyone to the new season which has started well again. A big thanks to those coaches, managers & volunteers who put there hands up. Their contact details are on the table below. We have 2 under 9’s (now called Year 4’s), 2 under 10’s, 1 under 11’s, 2 under 12’s and 2 under 13s with the remaining one side each.

This year we also have access to the school oval for the 4’s through to 12’s age groups. With up to 3 games being played at once an oval layout plan has been installed on the outside of the change rooms.

Recently we held the under 11s carnival with an estimated 1,000 kids and adults turning up. It was great day with the canteen doing record sales on the day. It was a good fun raiser and congratulations to all those that helped.

The 13’s to 16’s sides (who play for points) are putting some good results on the board after a slow start to the season. Keep up the good work.

Yr4 BLUE

The first two games played by Halls Head Blue (Year 4′s) have seen awesome displays of skills, team play and a lot of fun. Though little emphasis is placed on the result (we have lots of fun and support each other) the players are quick to point out that the opposition teams are yet to put the footy through the big sticks. Though this is unfortunate for the opposition it is a result of the team maintaining positional play, running hard together and displaying awesome levels of skill by hand, by foot and “between the ears” (running into space, linking up, carry and run) well beyond their years. The players are training hard each Wednesday night at Halls Head Primary School and jumping out of their skin each Saturday morning ready to don the blue and white jumper. Well done to all players, your coaches Chris and Dave really appreciate your enthusiasm, your willingness to listen and learn, and your desire to play as a team. Special thanks to our manager Donna Geddes and all the parents for their fantastic support. There is no doubt that between both Halls Head Year 4 teams there are many champion players in the making … the 2017 AFL Draft may be a good one for this bunch of fantastic footy stars. Keep enjoying your footy boys!!

U16’s

After a solid pre-season but inconsistent form in early games, we are trying for consecutive wins during the next few weeks. At this stage of the season, it’s ironic that the 2 Grand Finalists from 2008, Halls Head & Centrals are both sitting low on the ladder without a point.

Round one was a tough and very physical game. We were constantly against the odds all night but hung in to see scores level at ¾ time. In the end a fired up Warnbro run away with the win in the final 10 minutes.

Due to a ‘dust up’ before half time, both teams were booked in to face the tribunal the following week. The resulting fines and loss of 4 points to both clubs are a setback but we have gained a valuable football lesson.

Our victory in round 2 against Secret Harbour proved we are able to kick a good score with Ryan Warr, Corey Pitt and Jake Saunders kicking multiple goals. We did fall away in the 2nd half and allowed the opposition to score freely so this is an area to improve.

However we are confident our boys have turned the corner even after going down last week by 4 points in the final minute to South Mandurah. The discipline was great and the focus on the day was to come away – win, lose or draw, with the knowledge that we played within the spirit of the game and enjoyed our footy.

We go into round 4 with a full squad of 22 players who are eager to meet the challenge of making ground on the competition.

No injuries, no illness and a growing confidence should prove to be deadly against the opposition in weeks to come.

13’s Blue

Russell Coad Coach and Leanne Dillon Team Mgr

After the boys start with 2 loses we pulled together an awesome team win last weekend against Warnbro 99 pts to 0.

A big thank you to the Colts players – Rhys Cherry and Matt Falkstrom who helped Russell to train the boys really well Friday night, firing up their enthusiasm, teaching them new training drills. Captain Nathan Fahey lifted the boys kicking 3 goals for the game and Alex Dillon contributed 4 goals for a great team effort by the talls and the small runners. Great effort by Haydn Kimpton and Mitch Seamer also. Well Done Boys !!

This weekend we are off to South Mandurah to take on the Blue team. Hoping to pickup another 4 points. (late news, we one)

Hoping to hear that really LOUD coach fire up again! (Only joking Russell)

Someone has gone to a lot of effort with this.

13’s Premiership Side in 2005. Can you pick the faces.

Halls Head 15’s player Laine Wilkins has been selected to represent Western Australia at this year’s State Schoolboys football championships.

This is a great achievement by Laine and a credit to his football ability and work effect.

With strong family support from Silver, Suzy and Teagan, Laine has excelled in his football over the past couple of years, winning the 14’s association Fairest and Best last season and representing Peel Thunder in the 14’s development squads.

With his tall athletic build, Laine has a strong mark and raking left foot kick, with outstanding ability to read the play. We wish him all the best for the upcoming carnival in Queensland and are proud to have in our club.
